Apple's iOS 27.2 update speeds up Siri AI and adds more personal context

What happened

Apple's 27.2 software update, rolling out today, improves Siri AI with faster activation from the Search text field and better performance on other devices. Siri can now scan additional file types stored on iCloud Drive, especially PDFs. The update also adds more personal context sources, including photos attached in the Me card, to provide better answers.

Why it matters

This matters to anyone who uses Siri on iPhone or iPad because the assistant can now pull from more of your personal information to give relevant answers. The PDF scanning feature means you can ask Siri about documents you have stored in iCloud Drive without opening them manually.

Who's doing it

Apple is rolling out the 27.2 software updates today for iOS devices. Siri AI originally launched last month in iOS 27 as a major overhaul of Apple's assistant.

Try it

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap General, then Software Update, and install iOS 27.2. Expected outcome: Your device restarts with the new update installed.
  2. Swipe down on the home screen to open Search, then type a question for Siri. Expected outcome: Siri activates faster from the Search field than before.
  3. Ask Siri a question about a PDF stored in your iCloud Drive, such as 'What is in my tax document?' Expected outcome: Siri scans the PDF and summarizes or references its contents.

  • Karen what's the catch

So Siri can now scan my PDFs AND look at my Me card photos? WHO exactly gave permission for my tax documents to be read by an assistant that phones home to iCloud?

    • The Professor replying to Karen

The update scans files already stored in your iCloud Drive. It does not transmit them externally; the processing occurs on device. Your tax PDF was already in Apple's cloud before this update.

  • The Anchor what could go wrong

Breaking: Siri now pulls answers from your personal photos and stored documents. If the assistant misreads a PDF or pulls wrong context, you could act on incorrect information without realizing it.

  • The Yinzer BS detector

Faster activation from the search field, n'at. Used to be you'd type a question and wait like you're stuck on the Parkway. Now it just scans your PDFs dahntahn without you opening them. Not bad, but I'll believe it when I see it.
