Apple adds AI assistant to Pages, Keynote, and Numbers in beta
What happened
Apple is bringing an AI assistant to Pages, Keynote, and Numbers that can understand the context of a document to perform tasks. The assistant can draft and restructure content in Pages and organize data in Numbers. Pages, Keynote, and Numbers now support the Model Context Protocol on macOS 27 or later, which allows third-party AI agents to plug into the apps. The AI assistant is rolling out in beta to devices compatible with Apple Intelligence, running iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27.
Why it matters
If you write documents or build presentations on Apple devices, you may soon get AI help drafting and organizing content without leaving the app. The Model Context Protocol support means outside AI tools could connect to your Apple documents, which could expand what you can automate. This is beta, so expect rough edges and limited availability at first.
Who's doing it
Apple is rolling out the AI assistant in beta to devices compatible with Apple Intelligence running iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27 or later.
Try it
- Check if your device is eligible by going to Settings, then General, then Software Update. If iOS 27 or macOS 27 is available, install it.
- Open the Pages, Keynote, or Numbers app and look for a new AI assistant option in the interface. If you see it, your device supports Apple Intelligence.
- Create a new document and try asking the AI assistant to draft a paragraph or restructure existing text. If the feature is not visible yet, check back as Apple continues the beta rollout.

Third-party AI agents plugging into my Pages and Numbers docs? WHO approved that and what are they reading? My quarterly sales spreadsheet is NONE of their business.
The Anchor what could go wrong
Breaking: a beta AI assistant is restructuring content and organizing data in your documents. Beta means rough edges, which means it will reorganize your spreadsheet wrong and you will not notice until the meeting.
The Yinzer BS detector
Beta rollout means half of yinz won't even see the thing yet. Apple says check back, which is corporate for we ain't done cookin' it. Don't go dependin' on some robot to draft your presentation n'at.
