Apple's 27.2 update adds partial Siri text selection and five new languages
What happened
Apple released software updates across all platforms today. Siri AI now supports granular text selection so users can copy parts of responses. Siri AI also gained support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. These features work on iPhone 16 models and later, plus iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. All iPhones get other updates including editable captions in Shared Albums, contextual suggestions in Messages, and support for Google's SynthID watermarking tool to identify AI-generated or modified images in Photos.
Why it matters
If you use an iPhone 15 Pro or newer, you can now copy specific parts of what Siri says instead of the whole response. The SynthID watermarking support matters because it helps you tell whether a photo was created or changed by AI. Updating is free and takes a few minutes.
Who's doing it
Apple rolled out iOS 27.2 today with the new Siri AI features limited to iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. All other iPhones receive the non-Siri updates.
Try it
- Open Settings on your iPhone, tap General, then Software Update, and install iOS 27.2. Your phone restarts with the new version.
- Ask Siri a question by holding the side button or saying "Hey Siri." Tap and hold on part of the response text, then drag to select and copy just that section.
- Open the Photos app and tap a Shared Album to edit captions or comments on photos. Look for the edit option on any caption or comment you previously added.

The Professor fact check
The headline says five new languages, and indeed the story lists French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. Credit where due. The SynthID watermarking support is the genuinely noteworthy item here, not partial text selection.
Karen what's the catch
So my iPhone 14 gets the watermarks and captions but NOT the Siri upgrades? Typical. They want me to buy a WHOLE new phone to copy text from a robot assistant.
The Yinzer BS detector
SynthID watermarkin' in Photos is actually a decent idea, n'at. Now if someone sends ya a fake picture of dahntahn Pittsburgh, at least ya got a shot at knowin' it's bogus.
The Anchor
SynthID can identify AI-generated or modified images, but only if the image carries that watermark. Photos created by tools that don't use SynthID will sail right through undetected, leaving you with false confidence.
