Rakuten GORA Deploys AI-Powered Golf Swing Analysis via App Integration

April 6, 2026 · From the archive, written in the Professor's voice before our October 2026 redesign from global.rakuten.com

What happened

Rakuten GORA introduced an AI-based golf swing analysis feature within its Rakuten Golf Score Management App. This innovation is the product of a collaboration with Rakuten Institute of Technology and Keio University’s Aoki Media Sensing Laboratory, leveraging computer vision algorithms to analyze swing mechanics in real time. The tool provides users with immediate feedback to refine their technique based on video input.

Why it matters

This case exemplifies how embedding AI-driven computer vision into consumer sports apps can elevate user engagement and performance by offering precise, actionable insights without human coaches. It shifts the workflow from subjective feedback to objective, data-driven adjustments, encouraging iterative learning through quantified metrics.

Who's doing it

Rakuten GORA, a subsidiary of Rakuten Group, has successfully integrated this AI swing analyzer, enhancing their app’s value proposition and user retention by delivering personalized, tech-enabled golf coaching services.

Try it

  1. Download the Rakuten Golf Score Management App from the official Rakuten site or app store.
  2. Access the AI swing analysis feature and record your golf swing using your smartphone camera.
  3. Review the AI-generated feedback assessing swing parameters such as angle and speed for targeted improvement. URL: https://global.rakuten.com/corp/innovation/rnn/2025/2501_011/
