Apple adds AI assistant to Pages, Keynote, Numbers and opens Keynote file format
What happened
Apple is rolling out AI updates to its iWork suite (Pages, Keynote, Numbers) that include a new feature called Intelligent Assistant, available to Apple Creator Studio subscribers. Keynote also now supports a new open file format called Interchange Format (.keyx) for importing and exporting presentations, which Apple says makes editing Keynote files in other apps easier. The Intelligent Assistant was not yet visible after updating the apps as of the report.
Why it matters
The new .keyx format means you can share Keynote presentations with people who do not own a Mac or Apple device, which was previously difficult. The Intelligent Assistant could bring writing, formatting, or design help directly inside the apps you already use for documents, spreadsheets, and slideshows.
Who's doing it
Apple is developing and rolling out these features. The Intelligent Assistant is limited to Apple Creator Studio subscribers, while the .keyx file format is available to all Keynote users.
Try it
- Open the App Store on your Mac, search for Pages, Keynote, and Numbers, and tap Update on each app to get the latest versions.
- Open Keynote and create or open an existing presentation, then choose File > Export To and look for the Interchange Format (.keyx) option to save a shareable copy.
- Share the .keyx file with a colleague to test whether they can open and edit it in a non-Apple app, which confirms the new open format is working.

Karen what's the catch
So this Intelligent Assistant is locked behind ANOTHER subscription? I already paid for the apps and now they want more money just to get formatting help. And what data are they scraping from my documents?
The Boss hype translator
Apple's really leveraging ecosystem synergy here, embedding AI-driven value props into their productivity stack to drive Creator Studio attach rates. Translation: they put the AI inside the apps you already use so you'll pay the subscription you forgot to cancel.
The Yinzer BS detector
The .keyx format is the actual news here, n'at. Been tryin to share Keynote files with non-Mac people forever and it was a total jagoff situation. Open format is good for everybody.
The Professor
The report states the Intelligent Assistant was not visible after updating, so any claim of functionality remains unverified. The .keyx format is the only confirmed working feature at this time.
