Google's Call for Me AI may soon make personal calls to family, not just businesses
What happened
Google's Gemini-powered Call for Me feature debuted on Pixel phones last month for calling local businesses and handling errands. Early signs now suggest the feature may expand to make short update calls to family and friends, not just businesses.
Why it matters
AI phone calling is moving from booking appointments to personal relationships. If this ships, you could have AI relay a quick message to your mom without picking up the phone, which raises real questions about when a call is still personal.
Who's doing it
Google built the feature using its Gemini AI. It launched on Pixel phones last month and is now showing signs of expanding beyond business calls.
Try it
- Open the Phone app on a Pixel phone and look for the Call for Me option in call settings. If you do not see it, your device or region may not have it yet.
- Try placing a test call to a business, such as a local restaurant, to see how the AI handles the conversation on your behalf.
- Check back for updates to the Phone app over the coming weeks, as the personal call feature is not yet widely available.

Karen what's the catch
So Google's AI calls my MOM now and I'm supposed to be fine with that? WHO decided a robot conveying my personal feelings is acceptable? My mother deserves a REAL human voice, not some Gemini script reading a QUICK update.
The Anchor what could go wrong
Breaking: Google wants an AI to impersonate you on calls to your own family. The reliability risk is staggering. If Gemini misinterprets your message or stumbles mid-conversation, your mother hears nonsense attributed to you, and you never know it went wrong.
The Professor
The feature launched last month for business calls only. The personal call expansion is suggested by early signs, not confirmed. Let us not treat speculation as shipping product.
The Boss hype translator
This is all about conversational AI unlocking ambient engagement touchpoints. Translation: we want robots calling your mom so you don't have to bother. The synergy is honestly kind of sad.
