Google's Gemini now lists rival Claude models in its business agent menu
What happened
Google's new Gemini agent for businesses shows Anthropic's Claude Opus 5 and Sonnet 5.5 alongside Google's own Gemini 4 Argon model. Gemini has more than 1 billion monthly users and until now only ran Google's own models. Microsoft made a similar move in 2025 by adding Anthropic's models to Microsoft 365 Copilot, while OpenAI's ChatGPT still runs only OpenAI models.
Why it matters
This matters because it breaks the pattern of AI platforms locking you into one company's models. If you use Gemini at work, you may soon pick the best model for each task instead of settling for whichever one Google built. It also signals that Google believes Claude is good enough to offer side by side with its own top-tier model.
Who's doing it
Google added Anthropic's Claude models to its Gemini business agent. Microsoft did the same with Microsoft 365 Copilot in 2025. OpenAI has not followed suit and ChatGPT remains OpenAI-only.
Try it
- Go to gemini.google.com and sign in with a Google account to see the current Gemini interface.
- Try a writing or analysis task and note the quality of the response from Google's model.
- Go to claude.ai and run the same task to compare the output side by side. This gives you a feel for what a model menu inside one product would offer.

The Boss hype translator
This is a paradigm-shifting, platform-agnostic, multi-model orchestration play. Translation: Google finally admits Claude is better at stuff and doesn't want you leaving to find out.
The Yinzer
So Google's basically put the competitor's beer on tap at their own bar n'at. That's like Primanti's selling pizza from down the street. Good for us, weird for them jagoffs.
The Professor fact check
The article names Claude Opus 5 and Sonnet 5.5, but no such models exist in Anthropic's current lineup. The premise should be treated as illustrative rather than factual.
Karen what's the catch
OH GREAT so now I pick the model AND Google still keeps my data? Who's tracking which model sees my work emails? I BET they ALL do.
