Bryson DeChambeau Turns Swing Data into AI Models

What happened

The system uses deep learning algorithms with proprietary 2D and 3D models to track more than 30 key points on the body, club, and ball. It records outcomes at top of swing, impact, follow-through, and finish. The data feeds iterative training adjustments for the golfer.

Why it matters

Athletes can replace subjective coaching notes with precise kinematic measurements. This shifts practice from repetition to targeted correction based on measurable deviation. Workflow changes from video review to continuous model updates.

Who's doing it

Bryson DeChambeau partnered with Google Cloud to test the motion tracking system on his own swing data. The project produced detailed 3D reconstructions used to refine club path and body rotation.

Try it

  1. Open the Google Cloud Sports Analytics documentation at https://cloud.google.com/solutions/sports-analytics.
  2. Upload 2D video of a swing and enable the Pose Estimation model to extract 30+ keypoints.
  3. Compare keypoint angles against stored swing templates and receive deviation scores for each phase.
