Google AI Overviews now appear on most big-brand searches, tracking shows
What happened
Recent tracking by Search Engine Journal found that Google's AI Overviews now show up on most brand-name searches it checked. The report covered where these AI-generated summaries appeared and which sites they cited. Google also now reports AI search impressions separately.
Why it matters
If you run a business or manage a brand online, people searching for your company name may see an AI summary before they see your website. You need to know what that summary says and which sources it pulls from, because it shapes first impressions of your brand.
Who's doing it
Search Engine Journal senior news writer Matt G. Southern reported the tracking data. The findings come from SEJ's ongoing monitoring of Google search results.
Try it
- Open Google in your browser and search for your company or brand name. Look for an AI-generated summary box at the top of the results.
- If you see an AI Overview, note which websites it cites as sources. Visit those sites to see what they say about you.
- Search for 3 to 5 related terms like your product names or your name plus 'review.' Note whether AI Overviews appear and what they highlight. This tells you what potential customers see first.

The Boss hype translator
This is a paradigm shift in SERP real estate. Google is leveraging generative AI to own the narrative layer above your owned media, which means your brand is now a spectator in its own discovery.
The Yinzer
I sat through that whole pitch and all I heard was Google stands between you and your customers now and you just gotta deal with it. Real inspiring, boss.
