Google adds more links and source profiles to AI search answers
What happened
Google is updating AI Mode and AI Overviews to include more inline links directly in AI answers, dedicated sections for official websites, and visual carousels for news. The updates also add clickable creator profiles so users can better understand the sources behind their search results.
Why it matters
If you run a business or publish content online, these changes mean your website has more chances to appear as a clickable link inside Google's AI answers. This could bring more visitors to your site instead of keeping them on Google.
Who's doing it
Google is rolling out these updates to its AI Mode and AI Overviews search features, as announced on their official blog.
Try it
- Go to google.com and search for a topic you know well, such as your own business name or industry. Look for an AI Overview at the top of the results.
- Check whether the AI answer includes clickable inline links or a section pointing to official websites. Note which sources Google cites.
- Search for a news topic and look for a visual carousel of news articles. Click through one to see how Google now routes you to the original publisher.

The Boss hype translator
This is a paradigm shift in referral velocity. Google is basically admitting that keeping users on their own page was killing publisher trust, so now they're giving links back.
The Yinzer
So Google swiped everybody's content, summarized it, and now they're throwing yinz a clickable bone like they done you a favor? What a jagoff move, n'at.
The Professor fact check
The story describes inline links, source profiles, and news carousels, not a change to how Google ranks pages. The visibility concern predates AI Overviews entirely.
Karen what's the catch
Oh great, so now Google's AI answer gets MORE of my clicks before I even reach the REAL website? WHO is tracking me across all these carousel pages?
